Shell Paralegal in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

The Paralegal will report to the Managing Counsel for Malaysia & Indonesia (MC). The primary focus of the role will be to provide paralegal support to the MC as well as working alongside other lawyers to support a wide variety of general support for the Downstream & Renewables (D&R) business in Malaysia.

Accountabilities

  • The primary scope of work includes, among others, drafting and reviewing formal notices, compliance letters, filing and database management

  • Coordinate with the external company secretary on the corporate secretarial administrative support

  • Manage administrative support for disputes and litigation matters

  • Collaborate with business colleagues in the administration of the land titles for D&R business

  • Monitor relevant legal developments and communicate these to the Shell Malaysia Legal team, leadership teams, relevant businesses and functions

  • Research and prepare notes on legal issues in support of the lawyers

  • Exercise independent judgment and decision making with respect to a diverse range of paralegal duties

  • Act as an intermediary between the IT function and Legal where needed to ensure access to and use of the technology platform in a timely manner

  • Handle commercially sensitive material and confidential information on a routine basis

  • Interact with internal business colleagues and external counsel and third parties to transmit and acquire information, usually of a confidential nature

  • Functional Site Owner for Legal Sharepoint and super-user for all Legal IT platforms.

  • Possessing knowledge of department, business unit and company operations, organization and procedures;

  • Knowledge of the Malaysian legal and regulatory system, legal concepts and phraseology;

  • Display strong initiative and creativity in terms of improving and changing work processes;

  • Highly motivated, enthusiastic and resilient individual with ability to help foster a high performing team;

  • Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines.

Requirements

  • A university degree in Law or relevant diploma or other equivalent certification.

  • A professional, fast-learning and enthusiastic individual with strong organizational skills and a meticulous attention to and is keen in developing experience working in a global role that is exposed to multiple businesses.

  • Fluent and proficient English speaking and writing skills.

  • Three year's experience as a paralegal or equivalent role (preferably as a part of in-house legal team or in a law firm);

  • Skills in document review - checking clause references, formatting, pagination, suggesting removal of redundant information

  • A confident user of Sharepoint document management system, and main Microsoft applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
